Partner Leslie Smith was quoted in a Daily Business Review article, “Law Firm Pecking Order Is Missing in South Florida – Mostly,” about law firm policies that differentiate between different levels of attorneys and staff members.
Smith, managing partner of the Miami office, said such issues can be avoided by applicants at the hiring stage based on the feel of the firm. “I do remember interviewing at a firm, which I will not name and no longer exists,” she said, where she was told, “We don’t let ladies litigate.”
Foley follows a team-based approach, and the staff is an integral part of the team, she added, citing the firm’s transition to one-size-fits-all offices for attorneys and an egalitarian approach to amenities. “I know Foley in particular places high value on civility, and it’s something that we evaluate associates on,” she said.
