Recent patent reform legislation has sparked debates on various levels and one debate revolved around whether the proposed legislation will be passed before the 2008 presidential election given all the controversies surrounding the bill. Harold Wegner, a partner in Foley’s Washington, D.C. office, was quoted in the July 25, 2007 issue of Intellectual Property Watch in an article titled, “US Patent Reform Advances But Outcome, Global Impact Uncertain.” Wegner was quoted as saying that there is no chance the bill will pass unrevised before the election, in fact no patent legislation of this magnitude will.
