Ellis Named to Houston Business Journal’s 40 Under 40
Houston partner Scott Ellis was named to this year’s 40 Under 40 by the Houston Business Journal.
Ellis is vice chair of the firm’s Energy Litigation Practice and the Houston office’s hiring partner. He also co-chairs the Houston Bar Association’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee. Ellis told the Houston Business Journal that he is proud of his efforts to make a difference in Houston’s legal community. “As co-chair of the Houston Bar Association’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee and as Foley & Lardner’s Houston hiring partner, I strongly promote increasing opportunities for and hiring diverse law students by Texas law firms, government agencies and the judiciary. This year, in Foley’s Houston Summer Associate class, 60% were ethnically diverse and 60% female,” he said.
He also will continue to use his voice to inspire change. “Leading by example and taking action are the most important elements to inspiring real change. For example, diverse lawyers are significantly underrepresented in the Houston legal market. As a hiring partner at one of the county’s largest law firms, I’ve realized that speaking out and taking action by focusing on hiring diverse, incredibly talented attorneys at Foley. Co-chairing the Houston Bar Association’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee to promote diversity in hiring can make a significant difference in altering the status quo,” he said.
