Ferrante Quoted in Modern Healthcare About Regulatory Barriers for Telemedicine Dropping Amid COVID-19 Pandemic
03 April 2020
Senior Counsel Thomas Ferrante was quoted in the Modern Healthcare article, “Telemedicine Regulatory Barriers Continue to Drop for COVID-19,” about how the pandemic has pushed federal agencies to drop regulatory barriers to telemedicine.
Regulatory restrictions and lack of reimbursement topped the list of barriers to telemedicine in the past, according to Foley’s 2017 telemedicine survey. Now licensing barriers are the main speedbump for more widespread adoption. Some states have waived state licensing restrictions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, while others have not. “There isn’t really a mechanism to do it in a uniform manner by the federal government,” Ferrante said.
