Foley Partners Stephen Maebius and Jon Dudas, Of Counsel Phillip G. Kiko and Associate Matthew White authored an article that appeared in The National Law Journal on May 17, 2010 titled “First IP enforcement coordinator starts her term.” The authors discuss Victoria Espinel’s confirmation as the first U.S. intellectual property enforcement coordinator (IPEC), stating that questions remain regarding what powers the office of the IPEC will have at its disposal. They add that many hope the IPEC will effectively coordinate the work of the federal agencies involved in stopping IP violations, but note that there is concern over the question of whether Espinel will be granted the resources to effectively challenge IP violators.
