Foley Partners Carmen Couden and Kamran Mirrafati, members of the firm's Labor & Employment Practice, will host a webinar titled, "Overtime Exemptions: What's New and How It Affects You," on June 2, 2016.

Following months of expectation, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has finally updated the rules governing certain overtime exemptions and salaried workers. Effective December 1, 2016, the minimum salary required to be exempt from overtime requirements will effectively double, going from $23,660 to $47,476 — an increase expected to affect 4.2 million workers in the United States.

The DOL expects this change to cost employers nearly $1.8 billion in the first year alone.

The webinar will discuss:

  • Basics of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), including what employers and employees it applies to and what obligations it imposes on employers
  • The “white collar” FLSA overtime exemptions and how the DOL has substantially changed the salary test for those exemptions
  • What the change to the overtime exemptions will mean for businesses and other employers
  • Practical and strategic issues to start considering prior to the December 1, 2016 implementation date for the new rules

There is no cost to participate in this program, but pre-registration is required. To participate, please use the Register Today button above or below, or simply register here. Instructions for accessing the program will be included in the registration confirmation email.
