Patrick Daugherty Named a 2022 ‘Midwest Trailblazer’ by The American Lawyer

Foley & Lardner LLP Partner Patrick Daugherty was named to the 2022 “Midwest Trailblazers” list by The American Lawyer. The special supplement honors lawyers in the Midwest region of the United States who have moved the needle in the legal industry and are truly agents of change who have made significant marks on practice, policy, and technological advancements in their areas of legal practice.

Daugherty was recognized for his work as a fintech pioneer, leveraging decades of work to help new entrants and established players navigate the emerging world of decentralized finance, DAOs, cryptocurrencies, tokenized securities, foreign and domestic trading platforms, open-source software, and other disruptive technologies.

When asked about his path to becoming a trailblazer, Daugherty told The American Lawyer, “I was fortunate to start my career at a time when the modernization of public stock and bond offering processes on Wall Street was creating new financial products and better distribution systems. After my immersion in this environment of financial innovation, I was then recruited to the SEC to help plan additional breakthroughs such as Rule 144A and Regulation S. Upon returning to the private sector, I was one of the first to work with exchange-traded funds (revolutionary at the time) and eventually progressed to embracing the game-changing concept of digital assets.”
