Foley Attorneys Mentor Entrepreneurs at Black Connect Incubator Event

Foley & Lardner’s Racial Justice & Equity Practice Group assists minority owned businesses with a variety of transactional, marketing, and other corporate matters, including providing pro bono legal services through Black Connect’s Small Business Legal Services Program. Black Connect is a nonprofit business and entrepreneur center dedicated to eliminating the racial wealth gap facing Black Americans.

Foley was pleasedFoley Black Connect to co-sponsor Business Development Week 2022 on October 4-6 and participate in a business support event on October 4 held at co-sponsor Silicon Valley Bank’s New York City office, where Black Connect members received hands-on assistance in legal, finance, marketing, business planning and strategy, technology, and other areas.

During the business support event,Foley Black Connect Foley Corporate senior counsel Emma Blumer and associates Talita Duarte and Ashley Lee and Intellectual Property partner Jonathan Moskin and associate Arian Jabbary provided one-on-one mentoring to entrepreneurs, helped them to spot issues, and discussed relevant considerations for small business owners and early-stage companies.

Our attorneys mentored entrepreneurs in industries such as abetment, music and radio, photography, and financial consulting and addressed questions relating to licenses and permits required for specific businesses, rights of image and copyrights, protections for founders, release agreements, incorporation, and reporting requirements. Approximately 50 Black Connect members attended the business support event

Black Connect’s 2022 Business Development Week also provided opportunities for professionals and seasoned business owners to share their knowledge and experience in various areas and included Black Connect’s annual pitch competition to provide funding and support to strengthen Black-owned small businesses.
