In Recognition of Juneteenth, Foley Welcomes Lynne Jackson

In recognition of Juneteenth, we’re pleased to share that Lynne M. Jackson, the President and Founder of The Dred Scott Heritage Foundation and the great-great granddaughter of Dred Scott, hosted a firm-wide discussion today on the infamous Dred Scott v. Sandford case.

In the case, her great-great grandfather, an enslaved Black man, unsuccessfully sued for his freedom and that of his wife. She shared details of that case, including how Dred Scott was eventually freed just 3 months before he died. She also discussed how the case influenced the passage of the 13th and 14th Amendments and their connection to Juneteenth.

In 2006, she established The Dred Scott Foundation which works to inspire Commemoration, Education and Reconciliation.
