His session, Legal Landmines in Collaborative Oncology Ventures, explored models for successful physician-physician and hospital-physician collaborative oncology ventures, including practice consolidations, leased employee arrangements, equity joint ventures, block leases, service line co-management agreements, modified under arrangements transactions, pay-for-quality incentives, affiliations and professional service agreements. Pertinent legal and business issues were discussed, including the impact of recent changes to the Stark law, anti-mark-up rules, IDTF rules, and recent OIG Advisory Opinions. Consideration were also given to how national health reform may change the landscape for oncology collaborations.
