Golf courses around the nation are being closed down for various reasons including excess supply and operational costs. The primary reason, however, is the conversion of golf course property to residential or commercial development. R. Duke Woodson, a partner in Foley’s Orlando office, authored the article, “Legal Implications of Golf Course Conversions,” which was published in the Summer 2007 issue of the Golf Property Analysts’ NewsLinks. Woodson said these conversions require rezoning or amendments and public hearings. Neighboring property owners always express concern regarding saving the last green space, avoiding additional road congestion and not overcrowding schools.
