Foley Recognizes West Michigan Cancer Center and Dayton Physicians LLC With Cancer Center Innovator Award
Organizations Selected For Demonstrated Leadership in Business of Cancer Care.
Foley announced that West Michigan Cancer Center (WMCC) and Dayton Physicians, LLC have been chosen to receive its 2009 Cancer Center Innovator Award. The award was presented at the firm’s third annual Cancer Center Business Summit.
The Cancer Center Innovator Award honors organizations that have best distinguished themselves as innovators in the business of cancer care. This marks the first time two outstanding organizations have been recognized with this prestigious award in the same year.
“Foley is proud to present the Cancer Center Innovator Award to the West Michigan Cancer Center and Dayton Physicians, LLC for their approach to providing comprehensive cancer care services in the midst of a precarious economic climate,” said Michael Blau, chair of the firm’s Health Care Venture Practice. “Both organizations have developed methods of doing business that allow them to cut overhead costs while continuing to move forward with promising innovations in oncology care.”
WMCC was chosen for this recognition in part because of its aggressive stance on expense reduction and revenue enhancement, evident by its consolidation and affiliation efforts. Dayton Physicians, LLC was recognized based on its ongoing innovation in oncology specialist diversification within a single professional practice. Additionally, this group is taking steps to weather today’s economic storm through expense/overhead reduction and revenue enhancement strategies.
“A commitment by our staff to work shoulder to shoulder, day in and day out, led to the sea change to our operation that has resulted in higher quality care,” said Terry McKay, President and CEO of West Michigan Cancer Center. “We are successfully delivering cancer treatment to our patients more efficiently and safely, thanks to our dedicated employees working together.”
A committee of Cancer Center Business Summit hosts and advisers selected WMCC and Dayton Physicians, LLC as the recipients of this year’s Cancer Center Innovator Award based on survey responses submitted by academic medical centers, non-profit and for-profit community hospitals, medical group practices and other cancer care institutions across the nation. The surveys aimed to identify how cancer care providers are coping with the new economic challenges facing community oncology and what innovative business models they are designing to position cancer centers for future success.
“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized as the recipient of the Foley & Lardner 2009 Cancer Center Innovator Award for outstanding innovation in oncology,” said Charles Bane, MD, President of Dayton Physicians, LLC. “The physicians and staff of Dayton Physicians, LLC continuously strive to ensure excellent and technologically advanced medical care for our patients throughout the Greater Dayton area. We view the current economic situation as an opportunity to enhance our efficiency and our commitment to provide outstanding medical care regardless of the economic landscape. With the future reforms in healthcare demanding high quality and efficiency, our practice is prepared to meet those challenges and serve the Dayton Community today and for years to come.”
