NewsFix covered the 17th Annual Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition held at the historic Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, the first sanctuary established in the city by liberated slaves in 1866. Twelve fourth- and fifth-graders from Houston ISD elementary schools honored Dr. King's legacy with speeches. Curtis Babers, a fourth-grade student from Lockhart Elementary School, won the competition.
