Foley announced today that Jan E. Murray has joined the firm’s Health Care Practice Group in its Boston office.
Murray has extensive experience representing hospital systems and academic medical centers in a wide variety of regulatory and transactional matters, including Medicare reimbursement, Stark law compliance, anti-kickback regulations, federal tax exemption and governance issues impacting nonprofit institutions. She also has experience counseling health care clients developing ventures in Asia and the Middle East.
Murray joined Foley from the Boston office of K&L Gates LLP. Prior to that, she served as deputy chief legal officer at the Cleveland Clinic, a top-ranked academic medical center. In that role, Murray served as counsel on complex health care transactions and regulatory issues for the Clinic and its subsidiary hospitals. She also provided counsel on academic and research-related matters.
“Having handled a wide range of complex legal matters for a leading medical center, Jan can closely identify with clients’ challenges, anticipate needs and offer innovative solutions as they navigate the increasingly regulated health care environment,” said Lawrence Vernaglia, chair of the Health Care Practice Group at Foley, which was recently recognized as health care law firm of the year for the second consecutive year by U.S. News – Best Lawyers. “She will be an asset to our team of multidisciplinary health care experts across the country.”
Murray has deep knowledge of the accountable care organization (ACO) business model, and has advised several health care trade associations on ACO developments. Additionally, she regularly counseled life sciences companies conducting global clinical trials.
“We are excited to add Jan to our team as we continue to grow our health care practice in Boston,” said Susan Pravda, managing partner of Foley’s Boston office. “Her knowledge and experience will serve as a valuable resource to our health care and life sciences clients, both on the east coast and nationally.”
Murray serves as vice chair of the American Health Lawyers Association’s Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Task Force.
