Skilled Investment Management Attorney Stuart Fross Joins Foley in Boston
Foley announced today that Stuart Fross has joined the firm as partner in the Private Equity and Venture Capital Practice in the Boston office.
Focused on investment management and pooled investment vehicles, Fross brings experience with a wide variety of investment funds including registered open-end, closed-end and exchange traded funds (ETFs); bank collective investment funds; Undertakings for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities (UCITS) funds; and private funds, both in the U.S. and offshore. He regularly provides counsel on issues related to equity, high-income and fixed income trading operations, as well as distribution for registered and unregistered funds.
“Stuart’s deep knowledge of the fund industry and regulation will be immensely valuable to our clients exploring investment opportunities in the U.S. and abroad,” said Jack Lasater, chair of the Business Law Department at Foley. “As companies face pressure from increased federal regulations, Stuart’s robust experience will help guide our clients through the continued uncertainty of financial reform and other complex legislation.”
Earlier in his career, Fross spent several years at Fidelity, where he held various positions, including deputy general counsel and senior vice president for strategic initiatives with Fidelity Management & Research Company, general counsel and senior vice president for Fidelity International, and deputy general counsel and senior vice president in the Legal Product Management division. He is also a co-inventor of a business method patent related to active ETFs.
“With the growing need for a trusted business advisor among investors and organizations, Stuart’s experience in both corporate and law firm settings allows him to offer a comprehensive perspective,” said Gabor Garai, chair of the Private Equity & Venture Capital Practice at Foley. “He has developed significant international and hands-on experience in investment management over the course of his impressive career, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the team.”
Fross joined Foley from K&L Gates, where he was a partner in the firm’s Investment Management Practice Group in Boston. He is a frequent writer and speaker on investment management and financial regulatory matters, and also serves as a lecturer in law for the Graduate Program in Banking and Financial Law at Boston University School of Law.
