Gardere Team Rides in 2014 Houston BP MS 150 Benefiting the National MS Society: Lone Star Chapter
Cyclists from the Houston office of Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP were among the 13,000 participants in the 30th Annual BP MS 150 benefiting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society: Lone Star Chapter.
The 30th Annual BP MS 150 was held April 12-13 with riders making the two-day journey from Houston to Austin. The Gardere team was composed of 96 Firm attorneys, staff, family members, clients and friends. This is the 14th year Team Gardere has competed, raising over $135,000 in 2014 alone.
This ride is the largest event of its kind in North America. An estimated 415 teams of cyclists traveled 180 miles across Central and South Texas to raise over $16.1 million in funds in support of multiple sclerosis research, programs and services provided by the National MS Society.
"It was both inspiring and challenging to have participated in the BP MS 150 Bike Ride along with my Gardere teammates," says Gardere Operating Partner Claude Treece. "I'm proud that we continue the tradition of support for the MS Society by helping to raise awareness for the disease."
Other Gardere MS fundraising efforts have included the participation of the Firm's Dallas-based Gardere Gearheads team in the Bike MS: Sam's Club Round Up Ride from Frisco to Fort Worth from 2006-2013. The team is a past recipient of the "Third Highest Fundraising Team Award." A collective total of over $1.5 million has been raised by the Firm over the past 14 years to support the National MS Society to directly benefit cutting-edge research, programs and services that will help find a cure for MS.
Multiple sclerosis is a progressive neurological disease that affects more than 2 million people worldwide, primarily those between 20 and 50 years old. A cure has yet to be discovered.
