Foley Adds Accomplished Health Care Attorney Mark Tatelbaum

Foley announced today that Mark Tatelbaum has joined the firm’s Health Care Practice as of counsel in its Boston and Washington, D.C. offices.

Tatelbaum brings extensive experience advising organizations in highly regulated environments and providing counsel to senior management, physician leaders, in-house counsel, human resources and operations staff. He has a deep understanding of the operational and legal issues affecting health care entities such as academic medical centers, hospitals and health systems, multi- and single-specialty physician groups, faculty practice plans and ambulatory surgery centers.

Tatelbaum has deep knowledge and experience in the areas of transactions involving provider joint ventures, affiliations and physician alignment; professional services and staffing agreements; medical staff by-laws and hearings; managed care; corporate governance; and operational contracts. He is also skilled in conducting corporate investigations looking into fraud and abuse, discrimination and harassment, conflicts of interest, professional misconduct, breach of contract and other issues.

Tatelbaum currently holds an appointment as an assistant professional lecturer for the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services, where he has discussed legal issues involving faculty practice plans and multi-specialty physician groups with future health care policymakers, lawyers and administrators.

Tatelbaum recently served as a consulting attorney to Children’s National Health System in Washington, D.C., and was general counsel/director of legal services for the George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates (GWMFA) for 12 years. As the first general counsel for GWMFA, he oversaw the company’s local, national and international legal affairs. Prior to GWMFA, Mark worked in the national health law practice of another law firm.

Tatelbaum began his legal career on active duty with the U.S. Navy in the Judge Advocate General Corps where he was assigned to the Legal Service Office in Bremerton, Wash., and later at the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, the headquarters for Navy Medicine, in Washington, D.C.
