Texas Lawyer covered results from its summer associate survey taken by 21 of the state's largest firms. The newspaper reports that a total of 533 summer associates were hired throughout the participating offices, only four more positions than the same firms had in 2014. Gardere has 11 summer associates in the Texas offices, six more than last year. The increase comes out of the corporate and litigation sections in the Houston office.
Gardere Hiring Partner Robert T. Slovak told the publication that the state's overall flat hiring rate reflects the trial market where there has been a decline in civil case filings. "The combination of the shrinking demand of litigation and growth of in-house departments has an impact on hiring," he said.
