Gardere’s 25th Annual MLK Jr. Oratory Competition in Dallas was covered by Fox 4 News. Fifth-grader Sierra Jones from Charles Rice Learning Center took first place in the competition.
Honoring the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Dallas competition featured eight fourth- and fifth-grade students who presented original three-to-five minute speeches answering the question, “If Dr. King were alive today, what would he say about Muhammad Ali’s contribution to society?”
“I would say fight when you’re tired. Fight for what you believe,” said Ms. Jones, speaking as Dr. King. “Fight like my friend Muhammad Ali. Fight until you can’t fight anymore.”
