Aaron Maguregui Assesses Data Privacy Hurdles in Telehealth
Foley & Lardner LLP partner Aaron Maguregui joined the Information Security Media Group podcast to discuss data privacy challenges in the telehealth industry.
Commenting on proposed health information privacy legislation in New York state, Maguregui said that if signed into law, the new rules would make certain activities for telehealth and remote patient monitoring companies more difficult.
“Entities that are even broader than the digital health ecosystem will be brought into the requirements to comply with this law,” Maguregui said, noting that even companies that do not necessarily see themselves as health care companies will be pushed to establish new frameworks for how they handle certain information.
“One of the big concerns that I think stretches across the telehealth industry as a whole is that the use and processing of regulated health information to either do research or development or improve a platform is significantly hampered by this law,” he explained.
Maguregui also touched on other privacy and security regulatory considerations, novel AI issues, and recent advancements across telehealth and remote patient monitoring.
