Foley Adds Litigation Partner Matt Caplan in San Francisco, Strengthening Technology and Health Care Sector Capabilities
Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that Matt Caplan has joined the firm’s San Francisco office as a partner in its Commercial Litigation Practice Group and Innovative Technology and Health Care & Life Sciences Sectors. Caplan’s addition builds on Foley’s recent growth in California and is the latest in a series of strategic hires that deepen the firm’s capabilities across priority sectors and key markets.
Caplan, who joins Foley from Cooley LLP, focuses on trade secrets, class actions, health care, and general commercial litigation. He has experience handling intellectual property and technology disputes, business and competitor matters, corporate governance issues, M&A-related claims, founder disputes, employment-related litigation, and other complex commercial cases. He regularly represents technology and health care companies, including emerging innovators, in disputes from trial through appeal.
“Matt’s extensive background in complex commercial disputes and deep understanding of the technology and health care industries significantly strengthen our national litigation practice,” said Lisa Noller, chair of Foley’s Litigation Department. “His background aligns with our strategic priorities and adds meaningful depth to the services we provide to clients across the country. He is a valuable addition to our team.”
Caplan is the eighth partner to join Foley’s California offices in the past three months and the fourth in Northern California, reflecting the firm’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the region and expanding its litigation, corporate, and IP offerings to support clients in high-growth sectors.
“Expanding our capabilities in Northern California remains a strategic priority for the firm,” said Thomas Carlucci, managing partner of Foley’s Northern California offices. “Adding Matt to our team enhances our ability to serve clients in the Bay Area and beyond, particularly in the technology and health care spaces where we continue to see substantial activity. We are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”
“I’m excited to join Foley’s growing and dynamic litigation practice, particularly as the firm continues to invest in California,” said Caplan. “Foley offers a unique opportunity to be part of a strong national platform while continuing to partner with clients who are driving innovation and shaping their industries. I look forward to reconnecting with old friends at Foley and collaborating with my new colleagues to solve our clients’ most pressing and complex challenges.”
