Thomas Ferrante Comments on New CMS Telehealth Enrollment Rules
Foley & Lardner LLP partner Thomas Ferrante was quoted in the Report on Medicare Compliance article, “CMS Pursues ‘Enforcement by Enrollment,’ Inviting a Change in Mindset’ About Enrollment,” discussing new physician enrollment and reporting requirements for telehealth practice locations.
Ferrante noted that telehealth providers working exclusively from their home now must list their residence as the official practice location on CMS Form 855, “sacrificing their privacy in the process.”
Additionally, he explained that “practitioners are required to bill the Medicare administrative contractor (MAC) for the jurisdiction where they’re physically located which might require the practice or hospital to add new practice locations to their enrollment forms for physicians delivering telehealth services.”
“Telehealth-only providers may lose business because of the enrollment burden,” Ferrante added.
