Associate

Jennie Zheng is an associate and intellectual property attorney with Foley & Lardner LLP. She is a member of the Mechanical & Electromechanical Technologies Practice Group, as well as a member of the Innovative Technology Sector. Jennie expertly assists clients with preparing and prosecuting utility and design patent applications; in addition, she has experience with a wide suite of other patent counseling services, such as infringement risk analyses, invalidity assessments, patentability opinions, search reports, and clearance analyses.

Jennie’s expertise spans a multidisciplinary array of technology areas including materials science, solid-state physics, quantum computing, semiconductors, robotics, electric vehicles, batteries, fuel cells, nanotechnology, optics, medical devices, MRI, chromatography, polymer systems, adhesives, and additive manufacturing. Her clients range from small startups who need help developing an IP strategy with their first patent, to large multinational corporations interested in protecting their diverse IP portfolios across international jurisdictions, to universities at the cutting edge of research and innovation in complex emerging technical areas.

Prior to joining Foley & Lardner, Jennie earned her bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. There, she performed experimental research on solar thermal fuels, and developed computational treatments for electrode materials. Additionally, she was the chair of the Committee on Education in MIT’s Undergraduate Association, and she volunteered as a science teacher abroad. Jennie then joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford as a National Science Foundation graduate fellow, where her research focused on catalytic perovskite materials for the oxygen evolution reaction in electrolysis. Jennie began at Foley as a patent engineer and patent agent, and subsequently earned her Juris Doctor from Northwestern.

Jennie was recognized with a Pro Bono Award from the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) in 2025 and was a recipient of a United States Patent and Trademark Office Pro Bono Practitioner Recognition Certificate in 2024.
