Foley & Lardner LLP represented Edward-Elmhurst Healthcare in its merger with NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore), an integrated health care delivery system based in Illinois. The transaction closed on January 1, 2022, creating one of the largest systems in the Chicagoland area.
The new combined 25,000-person organization will serve over 4.2 million residents in the greater Chicago area and bring together over 6,000 physicians through a network of nine hospitals and more than 300 ambulatory facilities. With this collective network, the combined organization will position itself for growth in the areas of orthopedics, cardiology, obstetrics, and behavioral health and ensure patients have seamless access to community-connected, expert care. The organizations’ existing physician and medical groups will remain in the network and continue to have access to leading-edge equipment, research and innovation opportunities, and Magnet-level nursing care.
The new combined organization will be led by J.P Gallagher as President and CEO, with Mary Lou Mastro joining the executive team as CEO of the Edward-Elmhurst region.
