Thomas Ferrante Comments on Government Shutdown Impact to Telehealth
Foley & Lardner LLP partner Thomas Ferrante highlighted the government shutdown’s impact to telehealth in the Report on Medicare Compliance article, “Impending Federal Shutdown Threatens Telehealth Flexibilities, CMS Rules and Guidance.”
“We will wake up and there will no longer be telehealth flexibilities in place for a period of time and no one knows what that will look like,” Ferrante commented ahead of the looming shutdown.
He said that most providers should be able to hold onto their claims and submit them if the flexibilities return, though whether they will actually be able to bill for telehealth services provided on dates of service during a coverage lapse depends on whether the legislation to reopen the federal government is retroactive.
