Daniel Farris Assesses Data Center Development in Wisconsin
Foley & Lardner LLP partner Daniel Farris is featured for his perspective on the trajectory of data center development in the Milwaukee Business Journal article, “Survey: Current pace of data center development is unsustainable.”
“I don’t see any slowdown right now in the number of projects, the size of projects, the demand for power,” Farris explained, noting while he expects continued rapid growth in the years to come, he anticipates an eventual deceleration.
He cited several challenges facing the industry, with energy availability and redundancy being key factors.
“There’s a power cliff that folks see, and we’re already approaching it,” Farris said, as the ability of incumbent utility companies to provide enough power to meet data centers demands may be insufficient via the current grid.
Looking ahead, Farris expressed optimism for the industry and said the Upper Midwest data center market “is still growing pretty rapidly and if you look at what’s in the pipeline, I think it supports (growth) pretty well.”
