Patrick Daugherty Appointed to SEC Investor Advisory Committee
Foley & Lardner LLP partner Patrick Daugherty has been appointed by the Securities and Exchange Commission to its statutory Investor Advisory Committee, which convenes publicly with SEC leadership and other experts several times a year. The Committee makes formal recommendations to the SEC for its consideration.
Daugherty, a senior securities lawyer and founder and chair of Foley’s Blockchain & Digital Assets Practice, directs a corporate, M&A, capital markets, financial regulatory, and fintech law practice. He advises boards and senior executives across a broad range of industries on strategic transactions, capital formation, governance, and regulatory matters. He also serves as an independent director of a public company.
“I thank each of the new members for their willingness to serve on the Investor Advisory Committee,” SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins said in a statement. “Their perspectives and expertise will be vital to the Committee’s work and I look forward to their contributions to the public dialogue on the important issues facing investors.”
Daugherty previously served as counsel to former SEC Commissioner Edward H. Fleischman in Washington, D.C. A graduate of Northwestern University and Cornell Law School, he began his legal career clerking sequentially for two chief judges of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Alongside his practice, Daugherty has taught seminars on digital assets at Cornell Law School and Northwestern Pritzker School of Law for multiple semesters. Working with tenured law faculty and others, he now directs an annual symposium on digital assets at the University of Chicago.
Daugherty will serve a four-year term. He joins nine current committee members, including three other newly appointed members: Adriana Z. Robertson, the Donald N. Pritzker Professor of Business Law at the University of Chicago Law School, John Liu, former Managing Director of Accenture and co-founder of Agile Partners; and Sheldon L. Ray Jr., former Senior Vice President of Investments at Raymond James & Associates. The committee is chaired by George S. Georgiev, Professor of Law at the University of Miami.
