Richard Leonardis represents property owners, contractors, and other construction-industry stakeholders in complex disputes involving property damage, construction-related losses, and insurance recovery. His practice focuses on matters arising from hurricane, wind, fire, water, and mold damage, as well as related breach of contract and bad faith claims against insurers.

Richard handles matters through every stage of litigation in both state and federal court, from pre-suit assessment through resolution. He drafts pleadings, dispositive motions, and discovery, appears at hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trial, and conducts and defends depositions involving adjusters, corporate representatives, engineers, contractors, and other expert witnesses. He also works closely with forensic engineers, loss consultants, general contractors, mitigation and remediation companies, roofers, and public adjusters to evaluate liability, causation, scope of damage, and litigation strategy.

In addition to his property damage work, Richard has broad litigation experience in commercial and business disputes, premises liability, general liability, real estate-related matters, and shareholder disputes. This background gives him a practical, multifaceted perspective when handling construction-adjacent litigation and other complex civil matters.

Earlier in his career, Richard co-founded the Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law’s Entrepreneur Simulator (now called The Sharon and Mitchell W. Berger Entrepreneur Law Clinic), he was a frequent legal volunteer at Legal Aid Service of Broward County and he also served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Thomas M. Lynch IV of the 17^th Judicial Circuit of Florida.
