Thomas Ferrante Examines Regulatory Focus on Telemedicine GLP-1 Prescribing
Foley & Lardner LLP partner Thomas Ferrante was quoted on growing regulatory and patient safety concerns in the Digital Health Insights article, “Telemedicine platforms under growing scrutiny as GLP-1 prescriptions rise.”
Ferrante discussed the increased focus on oversight and compliance in the industry, citing the FDA’s March 2026 warning letters to companies over marketing of GLP-1s. He added though that, “No one’s getting shut down from just those warning letters to start. They give the industry a chance to change, to comply.”
On certain telemedicine platforms receiving criticism for operating asynchronous models and not providing required clinical support after prescribing GLP-1s, Ferrante said, “Some of those online platforms, I think, are a little aggressive. There’s almost no clinical interaction. There’s no follow up.”
“Things can be done asynchronously, but it doesn’t mean you abandon that clinical standard of care,” he added.
