Englund Comments on Future of ‘V2V’ Technology

Special Counsel Nick Englund is quoted in a Law360 article, “Murky Connected-Car Regime Won’t Halt Auto Tech Push,” about the fate of a proposed rule that would require all new cars to be equipped with vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) wireless communications technology.

Englund said an Obama-era plan to establish a standard for V2V, which is now under review, might still be implemented.

“Because this has been kicking around at [the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration] for quite awhile, which put a big push to get it out, I don’t think it’s entirely dead,” he said. “But where it goes is a big question. This is a very big leap forward technologically for vehicles, and the huge investments extend out to infrastructure. In some ways, this might just be a recognition that the lead time to getting V2V might be longer than what was anticipated.”
