Swift Quoted on National Security in the Middle East

Senior Counsel Christopher Swift was quoted in a Bloomberg article, “Obama’s War Authorization Would Set Limited Check on His Actions,” on February 11, 2015. The article discussed President Obama’s request for authorization to fight against Islamic State beyond current battlefields in Iraq and Syria. Swift provided insights on the difficulty to define the enemy as Islamic State and “associated persons or forces,” and was quoted saying, “It’s a term that’s pretty contested right now because nobody knows who they are. There’s a lot of questions as to who gets to be an associated force and who is not.”
