Speaking on the results of say-on-pay in 2011, Partner Carolyn Long said there was an unexpectedly strong preference among shareholders for holding annual votes on executive compensation. Although most companies voted positively for executive pay scales in 2011, Long notes that perceptions of a disconnect between pay and performance may have contributed to negative votes on compensation in the previous year.
