Foley Partner Harold Wegner was quoted in an article titled “An i for and i” in the September 23, 2009 issue of The Globe and Mail. Wegner discusses the $290 million in damages awarded to software manufacturer i4i Inc. in a patent dispute with Microsoft, remarking that the case is a poster child for patent reform. He adds that many legislators in Washington want to severely rein in the ability of plaintiffs to sue in any out-of-the-way jurisdiction they like, often winning massive damages.
