Foley partners Jeffrey Costakos and Steven Becker were quoted in an article titled “Patent trolls try to rip off high tech firms” in the May 29, 2009 issue of BizTimes Milwaukee. Costakos and Becker discuss “patent trolls,” or entities that acquire the rights to multiple patents and search for a company using similar technology in order to offer the company a patent license for the technology in exchange for royalties. They recommend that companies conduct a periodic search for patents that might affect their product lines in order to protect themselves from trolls.
