Cleaner and Greener: Trends in Renewable Power Generation

The degree to which these issues are implicated for each company depends on the details of its strategic plan:

• Does the company envisage a distributed production grid, or is it planning to build a few large facilities?
  
• Will the production equipment be manufactured in the United States or abroad?
  
• Will the company own and operate the electricity generators?

Representatives from industry-leading companies taking a wide range of technical approaches to these problems discussed some of the problems they face and the solutions they’ve found. A particular focus of the conversation was the intellectual property challenges these companies face—employment contracts, trade secret protection, freedom to operate issues, outsourcing production, and filing strategies.
