La Escuela Libre de Derecho, one of the most prestigious law schools in Mexico, has announced that it will be hosting a seminar series on class actions from Feb. 10 to March 10, 2014. Gardere Attorneys Juan M. Alcalá, Juan Francisco Vázquez Lavista and Roberto Arena Reyes Retana will be speaking at the seminar, along with other prominent Mexican lawyers, including Magistrate of the Mexico City's Administrative Court Ruben Minutti, Jorge Gaxiola Moraila, Jorge Alejandro Sodi Patiño and Raúl Pérez Johnston. This seminar will analyze the mechanics of the new Mexican class action law, examine its origins and provide a comparative context to help understand how this new regime is likely to be interpreted and applied. Practicing lawyers, government officials, teachers and law students, as well as representatives of public and private companies, are expected to be in attendance.
The event was coordinated by Mr. Vázquez, a senior attorney in Gardere's International Dispute Resolution Group and a member of the Firm's Trial Team. Mr. Alcalá chairs the Firm's International Dispute Resolution Group, and Mr. Arena is managing partner of the Firm's Mexico City Office.
