Foley announced today that Christopher J. Donovan has joined the firm’s Health Care Industry Team and Business Law Department as a partner in the Boston office. He will also be a member of the Life Sciences and Senior Living Industry Teams. Prior to joining Foley, Donovan was a partner with McDermott Will & Emery LLP, where he practiced in the Corporate and Health Practice Groups for nearly 30 years and co-led the firm’s Post-Acute and Outpatient Services Strategy Affinity Group.
Donovan’s practice is focused on counseling companies, as well as their investors and lenders, in mergers and acquisitions, recapitalizations, buyouts and restructurings. He regularly represents clients in the life sciences and health service sectors, particularly in post-acute health care. Donovan has completed dozens of health and life science deals, both in the United States and across the globe, drawing on a blend of regulatory and corporate and finance capabilities.
“Christopher has an impressive track record handling complex deals in the health care and life science sectors and brings an important mix of regulatory and transactional knowledge,” said Lawrence Vernaglia, chair of Foley’s Health Care Industry Team, which was recently named “Law Firm of the Year — Health Care Law” for the second consecutive year on the 2013 U.S. News – Best Lawyers® “Best Law Firms” list. “As we continue to see steady M&A activity in the health care sector, Christopher’s ability to successfully navigate regulatory and business issues in both domestic and international transactions will be a tremendous asset to our clients.”
Throughout his career, Donovan has represented several multi-national corporations, U.S.-based companies and large private equity firms in mergers, acquisitions, debt financing transactions, leveraged buyouts, regulatory matters and other general corporate issues. He also routinely advises on a wide array of commercial arrangements and has advised companies on antitrust issues that arise during the M&A process.
“Christopher is a terrific addition to our strong roster of attorneys in Boston,” said Susan Pravda, managing partner of Foley’s Boston office. “We are excited to add his deep and widespread experience to our already strong health care and private equity practices in the northeast and nationally.”
