Benjamin J. Abrohams is a retired partner at the national law firm of Foley & Lardner LLP. He was the senior partner in the firm’s Real Estate Practice and a member of the Sports Industry Team.
Mr. Abrohams’ practice was particularly focused on the sports industry for many years. He represented the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club for several decades and has been involved in developing four different stadiums for the team, including Miller Park, its state-of-the-art Major League Baseball stadium, as well as the team’s Arizona spring training facilities. His experience with the Brewers includes lease negotiations with the county and Stadium District, insurance recovery following Miller Park’s crane collapse and a wide range of long-term legal services for the professional franchise.
Mr. Abrohams also represented the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League in connection with the various construction, leasing and other real estate activities relating to the $295 million renovation of Lambeau Field. His involvement with the Packers also included tax issues, negotiating suite license agreements, restaurant leases and vendor agreements, as well as working closely with the Packers’ in-house counsel on a variety of legal and business issues.
Mr. Abrohams has also represented Major League Baseball on several matters, including the complex issues relating to the relocation of the Montreal Expos to Washington, D.C. This representation included negotiations and the preparation of documents relating to the RFK lease and the new 41,000-seat ballpark slated to open in 2008.
Mr. Abrohams has been a speaker at the annual conference of the National Sports Law Institute and the 2004 conference of the National Association of College and University Business Officers. In addition to his sports expertise, Mr. Abrohams has worked extensively in the real estate development area representing both lenders and developers, and is experienced in hotel, shopping center, office building, and multi-family residential projects. Mr. Abrohams also was actively involved in purchase and sale transactions, environmental issues, zoning, problem loan workouts and restructurings, and commercial lease transactions. He has substantial experience in representing clients before governmental bodies in connection with land use permits and approvals, including the representation of a major cellular telecommunications company in municipal zoning and permitting matters relating to the development of the carrier’s cellular tower infrastructure.
Mr. Abrohams has significant experience in the eminent domain area. He negotiated the highest compensation award in the history of the State of Wisconsin for a building that the State Department of Transportation wanted to acquire for a freeway project.

A native of Green Bay, Mr. Abrohams graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, with honors, and from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was an editor of its Law Review. Following law school graduation, Mr. Abrohams attended the London School of Economics on a fellowship grant.
