Chambers USA Recognizes Law Firm in 2007 Client’s Guide.
Foley announced today that its Sports Law Practice was recently recognized by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers For Business: 2007 Client’s Guide as one of the top in the nation. Chambers, a guide to law firms and attorneys across the country, is compiled by independent researchers who conducted more than 14,000 phone interviews with clients and lawyers nationwide.
As one of the top six firms ranked nationally in the Sports Law category, Foley is primarily known for its work with Major League Baseball. The guide praises Foley’s team for its “skills across a range of areas including facilities matters, financing, IP and disputes. This variety can be seen in the group’s recent activity, where it was involved in the Mitchell investigation into steroid abuse and handled a range of league and real estate issues surrounding the move of the Montreal Expos to Washington, D.C.” Commentators opined that “it’s an astute and responsive team that seems able to find a specialist to handle every problem.”
In addition to ranking the firm’s Sports Law Practice nationally, Chambers also recognizes Foley litigation partner Mary K. Braza nationally in the practice of Sports Law. Braza, chair of Foley’s Sports Industry Team, is cited as “an excellent, astute litigator who analyzes a problem using good common sense.”
Braza is a member of the firm’s Management Committee. She serves as outside counsel to Major League Baseball in a variety of issues including strategic planning. She also works closely with league and Foley attorneys on matters such as employment, taxation, technology and consulting agreements, licensing, trademark and antitrust litigation. Braza was involved in Major League Baseball’s successful consolidation of League and Club interactive media rights and the formation of MLB Advanced Media, L.P. She continues to counsel MLBAM on issues related to baseball’s interactive media business, including overseeing a team of Foley lawyers working with MLBAM to grow its interactive media business and representing MLBAM in litigation. In addition to her sports practice, Braza has extensive experience in litigating commercial disputes in federal and state courts, involving such areas as environmental law, bankruptcy, distribution, insurance coverage, reinsurance and health care.
