Stephen Maebius and Judith Waltz Join Gabor Garai and David Rosen to Lead Firm’s Multi-Disciplinary Team.
Foley announced today that Stephen B. Maebius and Judith A. Waltz have been named co-chairs of the firm’s Life Sciences Industry Team. Maebius, who will serve as intellectual property co-chair, is a partner in the Intellectual Property Department and a member of the Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Practice and Nanotechnology Industry Team in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Waltz, who will serve as health law co-chair, is a partner in the San Francisco office, and a member of the firm’s Health Care Industry Team and the White Collar Defense & Corporate Compliance Practice.
Maebius and Waltz join business law co-chair Gabor Garai and FDA co-chair David Rosen on the Life Sciences Industry Team. The management team of these four leaders meets the diverse requirements of life sciences enterprises, from accessing private equity and managing intellectual property to securing regulatory approval and addressing the challenges of corporate compliance.
Maebius is a leader in the area of nanotechnology law and a co-founder of the NanoBusiness Alliance and the Nanotechnology Law & Business Journal, for which he currently serves as editor-in-chief. He has served as a visiting associate professor at Tokyo University’s Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, as well as an adjunct professor at George Washington University Law School. Prior to joining private practice, Maebius served as a patent examiner in the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in the Biotechnology Group.
Waltz has extensive experience in the health law arena, including involvement in a major pharmaceutical case involving allegations of inflated drug pricing. She provides ongoing compliance counseling and Medicare payment advice to numerous clients and is a frequent speaker and writer on these issues. Prior to joining the firm, Waltz served as assistant regional counsel for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in San Francisco.
