Gallagher Selected as Recipient of Milwaukee Bar Association 2011 Distinguished Service Award
Foley is pleased to announce that Richard S. Gallagher, partner in the Milwaukee office, has been selected as the recipient of the Milwaukee Bar Association (MBA) 2011 Distinguished Service Award. This prestigious annual recognition honors a member of the bench and bar whose extraordinary service to the bar over the previous year has helped to support and better the profession.
Mr. Gallagher has contributed countless hours of service to the MBA throughout his career. He served on the board of directors for the MBA Foundation for nearly forty years, including a six-year term as president during which he led the 13-person elected board. Mr. Gallagher leveraged his experience as a member of the firm’s Taxation and Estates & Trusts Practices and as former chair of the Tax & Individual Planning Department in his later role as treasurer of the board, responsible for managing association taxes. Throughout his board tenure, Mr. Gallagher played a collaborative role in facilitating the Foundation’s sponsorship of the Milwaukee Justice Center, a program that offers pro bono legal counseling to low income individuals. Foley Milwaukee attorneys continue to contribute to the Center, providing more than 100 hours of pro bono legal counseling each year.
In addition to Mr. Gallagher’s leadership and service for the MBA, he has served as former chairman of the Exempt Organizations Committee of the American Bar Association (ABA) Section on Taxation and was also past chairman of the Committee on Administration of Estates and Trusts of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the ABA. Mr. Gallagher has also been formally recognized for his significant public service contribution to the local community, having been honored as a recipient of the Wisconsin Law Foundation 2005 Donald O’Melia Local Service Award for his extensive community involvement.
