A Houston jury returned a defense verdict for Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP's client Stewart Title Guaranty Co. on April 29 after a 10-week jury trial. In the case, the plaintiffs sought almost $55 million in damages regarding 16 properties in Tulum, Mexico.
Stewart Title Guaranty Co. was represented by Gardere Partner James "Jay" G. Munisteri as lead counsel and Gardere Partner José A. Berlanga.
"After a single day's deliberations, the jury's verdict was a complete win for Stewart Title on all claims," Mr. Munisteri said. "The result is even more amazing when you consider that the jury heard detailed and technical evidence for 10 weeks and deliberated only a single day before returning a defense verdict."
Gardere's Litigation Chair Richard O. Faulk, who handled various appellate issues during the trial, attributes the win to "Stewart Title's unwavering commitment to its principles, and Mr. Munisteri's and Mr. Koepke's ability to master and translate extremely complex litigation issues into compelling, common sense arguments that the jury plainly understood."
