Business Journals Highlight Expertise of Partners Steve Good and Ken Glaser
The Business Journals featured Gardere Managing Partner Stephen D. Good and Kenneth R. Glaser, chair of Gardere's Intellectual Property Practice Group, in a June 25 article published in the Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio editions titled, "Shifting economy affects commercial litigation." An excerpt can be viewed below.
That federal legislation [Leahy-Smith America Invents Act], co-written by U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith of San Antonio, initiated new laws guiding procedures for resolving disputes in patent validity, as well as speeding up the process of getting a patent and lowering patent fees.
The legal impact of that legislation started last September and will be phased in more this September. Texas attorneys will have to see in late 2012 how much additional impact that legislation has on their already growing IP practices, said Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP Partner Ken Glaser.
Cost-conscious clients continue to be a trend for Texas lawyers, said Steve Good, managing partner with Gardere's office in Dallas. More attention to managing legal costs has led to more Texas companies avoiding bankruptcy filings while their creditors push for privately negotiated work outs of debt repayment as well as "alternative fee arrangements" for the attorneys.
