Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that Dr. Lori S. Richardson Pelliccioni has joined the firm’s Health Care and Government Enforcement, Compliance and White Collar Practices as a partner in its Los Angeles office. Pelliccioni comes to Foley after working in the health care industry for more than 20 years. Foley’s health care provider, health system, managed care and private equity clients will benefit from her practical approach to solving complex problems, deep understanding of risk issues and past industry experience in the public and private sectors. Pelliccioni’s practice will focus on regulatory compliance, health care fraud and abuse, health care investigations and due diligence matters.
Pelliccioni has held various leadership positions in the health care industry, including as a chief risk officer, a general counsel and a chief compliance officer for health care companies. Before working in the private sector, Lori served seven years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) in the Civil Fraud Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles, where she led False Claims Act investigations involving health care organizations.
“Foley is pleased to expand our nationally recognized Health Care Practice with the addition of Lori,” said Lawrence Vernaglia, chair of Foley’s Health Care Practice, which was named “Law Firm of the Year — Health Care Law” for the third consecutive year on the 2014 U.S. News – Best Lawyers® “Best Law Firms” list. “Lori will be a key strategic advisor to our clients as regulations continue to tighten for health care providers.”
“We are thrilled to expand the ranks of our white collar team with such a terrific lawyer who has many years of both industry and government experience. In adding another former AUSA who specializes in the False Claims Act, our clients will gain from the depth of understanding Lori brings to the task of investigating and representing health care and pharmaceutical companies in government and qui tam investigations,” said Michael Tuteur, chair of Foley’s Litigation Department.
Pelliccioni, who received her Ph.D. from the Fielding School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), teaches at the Department of Health Policy & Management within the School of Public Health and serves on the UCLA School of Public Health Alumni Association. She also served two years on the University of California Board of Regents.
“Lori will serve as a trusted legal adviser to our clients on the unique challenges facing health care organizations in Los Angeles and throughout the state of California,” said Deepak Nanda, managing partner of Foley’s Los Angeles office.
