Gardere Partner Geoff Bracken Represents Singer Patti LaBelle in Assault Case
Texas Lawyer covered a recent development in an assault case filed against R&B singer Patti LaBelle's entourage. In 2011, Plaintiff Richard King sued Ms. LaBelle and members of her entourage, claiming that he was a victim of a unprovoked attack by the entourage at the George Bush International Airport. One of the entourage members countersued, alleging that Mr. King had assaulted him. The jury concluded that the entourage did not assault Mr. King – that their actions were in self-defense – and that Mr. King did assault the entourage member who countersued. In the end, the jury awarded no damages to either party.
Mr. King sought for a new trial, but on Nov. 14, the judge denied his request stating that Mr. King's allegations did not provide adequate reasons for one.
Gardere Litigation Partner Geoffrey H. Bracken represented Ms. LaBelle and the other defendants.
