The National Law Journal
Partner Don Schroeder was quoted in a National Law Journal article, “Harvey’s Destruction Will Test Employers’ Pay, Leave Policies,” covering what employers need to consider about pay and work obligations following a natural disaster – like Hurricane Harvey – in order to avoid liability or other repercussions for failing to protect their workers. Schroeder also discussed the importance of companies communicating with their employees to avoid wage-and-hour problems down the road.
“Communication with the workforce is critical,” he said. “Employees may assume they are being paid by the company even though they are not able to report to the company’s location due to flooding or, worse yet, complete destruction of the company’s offices and/or their residences.”
This article also appeared in Corporate Counsel, Law.com, The Legal Intelligencer and Property Casualty 360.
