Judith Waltz Discusses How Medicare’s Proposed Workforce Changes Impact Care Access

Foley & Lardner LLP Partner Judith Waltz was quoted in the Behavioral Health Business article, “Medicare’s Proposed Workforce Changes Could Shake Up the Market, Boost Access to Care,” discussing Medicare’s recently proposed Physician Fee Schedule for 2023.

While the proposed rule helps increase access by limiting supervision requirements and shifting supervision from ‘direct’ to ‘general,’ Waltz noted key areas where the rule does not change, particularly as it relates to provider and patient relationships. General supervision doesn’t necessarily mean less oversight from clinicians, as “the doctor should be looking at the notes like every time that the LMFT is seeing the patient,” added Waltz. She concluded that while “it may not look like such a big thing to the rest of the world… it’s a big step for [CMS].”
