Micah Chavin represents a wide range of businesses and individuals in complex litigation, focusing on intellectual property issues, post-merger disputes, consumer class action defense, and corporate governance disputes. He has significant experience in all stages of trial, arbitration, and mediation across both federal and state courts. Additionally, Micah is actively involved in pro bono work, including successfully drafting an appellate brief for the California Court of Appeals that resulted in a complete victory for his client.

Micah has a particular expertise in trade secret litigation, managing numerous cases in California’s state and federal courts. He is also skilled in handling post-merger disputes, especially those related to earnout or deferred payment clauses, having litigated such cases in California courts as well as the Delaware Court of Chancery. Micah began his career clerking for the Honorable Stephen V. Wilson in the Central District of California from 2016-2017.

  • Defended an acquiring company in an earnout dispute by successfully opposing dispositive motions, deposing and defending fact and expert witnesses, serving as second chair during a three-week bench trial in Los Angeles Superior Court, and preparing post-trial briefs.*
  • Assisted a Silicon Valley strategic investor and its foreign parent company in responding to allegations of breach of fiduciary duty as majority shareholders of a technology startup, including drafting demurrers and a motion to quash, managing written discovery, successfully obtaining a writ to overturn an unfavorable trial court ruling, and winning a motion for summary judgment that disposed of the case just before trial.*
  • Defeated trade secret misappropriation and business tort claims brought by a prospective business partner against a fintech company,and obtained fee award under Civil Code section 3426.4 for bad faith prosecution of trade secret misappropriation.*
  • Represented an insurance company in nationwide litigation and regulatory enforcement related to a unique market product, including drafting dispositive motions, taking depositions, preparing written discovery, conferring with opposing counsel, and conducting research to support trial motions in limine.*
  • Defeated motion for class certification by California consumer class against food company in which plaintiffs alleged the company raised price post-pandemic in violation of California anti-price gouging laws.*
  • Obtained dismissal for lack of personal jurisdiction for Netherlands based technology company in a federal lawsuit filed in California alleging breach of contract.*
  • Advised an insurance conglomerate on legal exposure for participant insurers arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, coordinating coverage positions and legal strategies, and drafting a 21-page memorandum analyzing whether courts would likely consider COVID-19 as causing the “physical loss or damage to property” necessary to trigger coverage.*
