Shivkumar (Shiv) Patel helps clients protect and commercialize their innovations through strategic intellectual property counsel. Shiv brings a multidisciplinary perspective shaped by his academic background in mechanical engineering and engineering management, and his hands-on experience across legal, corporate, and research environments.

Shiv is a member of firm’s Mechanical & Electromechanical Technology Practice Group. He began his legal career at Foley as a summer associate and IP fellow, where he supported patent filings, enforcement strategies, and internal policy development. He also supported enforcement initiatives and helped shape internal corporate policy through research and drafting on Responsible AI. Shiv’s engineering and data analysis experience prior to law school informs his approach to IP strategy and client service.
