Shivkumar (Shiv) Patel is an associate in Foley & Lardner LLP’s Business Law Department, where he focuses his practice on commercial real estate transactions. Shiv assists clients with a range of matters involving acquisitions, dispositions, financing, leasing, and development across a broad spectrum of asset classes, including energy and infrastructure projects, multifamily and office assets, and hospitality-related portfolios.

Shiv brings a practical, business-oriented approach to client service, helping clients navigate diligence, transaction management, and the real estate dimensions of broader business matters. His experience includes supporting title and survey review, site control and other key transactional documents, and coordinating with deal teams to help matters progress efficiently toward closing. Drawing on experience with complex legal and technical matters, including patent-related work, Shiv offers clients an analytical and detail-oriented perspective in addressing business and transactional issues.

Shiv began his legal career at Foley as a summer associate, where he supported a variety of client matters and internal initiatives through research, drafting, and strategic analysis. His background in mechanical engineering and engineering management, together with experience across legal, corporate, and technical environments, informs his thoughtful and solutions-oriented approach to client service.
