Retired Partner

Peter J. Stone is a retired partner with Foley & Lardner LLP, where he was a member of the firm’s Distribution & Franchise and Commercial Litigation Practices. He litigated a wide variety of business and commercial disputes in federal and state courts for more than 30 years and had extensive litigation experience supervising complex cases. His areas of litigation included commercial, distribution, trademark and copyright, antitrust, general corporate, contracts, finance, insurance, real estate, and employment matters. Peter also had considerable experience representing clients in dispute resolution proceedings, including mediation and arbitration, and he served as a civil case mediator.

Peter wrote and lectured on behalf of the University of Wisconsin Law School, including serving as a Civil Practice Instructor, and served as special counsel to the former Wisconsin Board of Attorneys Professional Responsibility.

He was a member of the American Bar Association (Sections on Litigation and on Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law) and the State Bar of Wisconsin (Sections on Litigation and on Corporation, Banking and Business Law). Peter was admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He earned a bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Wisconsin, where he majored in economics, and received his J.D. from Stanford University in 1976.
